Gibco™

Cell Culture Media

BenchStable™ Media

Gibco™ BenchStable™ basal media are engineered for flexibility and convenience. The media are formulated with GlutaMAX™ Supplement and are available in widely-used basal media formulations, including: DMEM, DMEM/F-12, MEM, and RPMI 1640. The unique formulation of BenchStable™ media enables room temperature storage of unopened bottles. Complete BenchStable™ media are capable of supporting cellular proliferation and maximum cell densities that are comparable to that of conventional basal media formulations (supplemented with ≥10% FBS). For most cell lines, adaptation is not required to transition from conventional medium to BenchStable™ medium.

DMEM

Gibco™ Dulbecco’s Modified Eagle Medium (DMEM) is a widely used basal medium for supporting the growth of many different mammalian cells. Cells successfully cultured in DMEM include primary fibroblasts, neurons, glial cells, HUVECs, and smooth muscle cells, as well as cell lines such as HeLa, 293, Cos-7, and PC-12.

DMEM/F-12

Gibco™ Dulbecco’s Modified Eagle Medium/Nutrient Mixture F-12 (DMEM/F-12) is a widely used basal medium for supporting the growth of many different mammalian cells. Cells successfully cultured in DMEM/F-12 include MDCK, glial cells, fibroblasts, human endothelial cells, and rat fibroblasts.

We offer a variety of DMEM/F-12 modifications for a range of cell culture applications.

RPMI 1640

Gibco™ Roswell Park Memorial Institute (RPMI) 1640 Medium has been found suitable for a variety of mammalian cells, including HeLa, Jurkat, MCF-7, PC12, PBMC, astrocytes, and carcinomas.

RPMI 1640 Medium is unique from other media because it contains the reducing agent glutathione and high concentrations of vitamins. RPMI 1640 Medium contains biotin, vitamin B12, and PABA, which are not found in Eagle’s Minimal Essential Medium or Dulbecco’s Modified Eagle Medium.

We offer a variety of RPMI 1640 Medium modifications for a range of cell culture applications.

MEM

Gibco™ Minimum Essential Media (MEM) is patterned after Eagle’s Media and is well suited for the growth of a broad spectrum of mammalian cells.

One of the most commonly used of all cell culture media, MEM can be used with a variety of suspension and adherent mammalian cells, including HeLa, BHK-21, 293, HEP-2, HT-1080, MCF-7, fibroblasts, and primary rat astrocytes.

We offer a variety of MEM modifications for a range of cell culture applications.

GlutaMAX

Gibco™ GlutaMAX™ Supplement is an alternative to L-glutamine, with increased stability that improves cell health. GlutaMAX Supplement is suitable for both adherent and suspension culture of mammalian cells, with no adaptation required. GlutaMAX Supplement is offered as a 200 mM L-alanyl-L-glutamine dipeptide in 0.85% NaCl. GlutaMAX Supplement is also included in a variety of media formulations. Compared to L-glutamine, GlutaMAX Supplement:

  • Minimizes toxic ammonia build-up
  • Improves cell viability and growth
  • Remains stable across a wide range of temperatures

 Cell Culture Reagents

Balanced Salt Solutions

Trust Gibco™ Balanced Salt Solutions to provide an isotonic buffer system that keeps your cells in the physiological pH range and helps to maintain high viability during short-term incubations.

Available in many formulations and formats, both liquid and powder.  All powdered balanced salt solutions are produced without sodium bicarbonate to increase stability. Powder formats will require sodium bicarbonate supplementation, pH adjustment, and filtration at the time of preparation (see this protocol for details).

All Gibco Balanced Salt Solutions are manufactured in state-of-the-art cGMP, ISO-certified facilities to ensure the highest quality and consistency for reproducible results every day. Tests include osmolality, pH, stability, the absence of bacterial and fungal contamination, and endotoxin tests.

Trypsin and Cell Dissociation Reagents

Gibco™ trypsin and alternative cell dissociation products are ideal for use with tissues and cell monolayers. Trypsin and TrypLE reagents come in a wide variety of formats to meet the diverse needs of researchers performing adherent cell culture.

Distilled Water

Gibco™ distilled water is high-quality water for use as a solvent in the preparation of cell culture media and laboratory reagents. Available in many sizes to meet your needs, this distilled water features:

  • Cell culture quality
  • Proven performance
  • Suitable for use in cell culture and molecular biology applications
HEPES

Gibco® HEPES (N-2-hydroxyethylpiperazine-N-2-ethane sulfonic acid) is a zwitterionic organic chemical buffering agent commonly used in cell culture media. The addition of 10–25 mM HEPES provides extra buffering capacity when cell culture requires extended periods of manipulation outside of a CO2 incubator. HEPES is a good buffering choice for many cell culture systems because it is membrane impermeable, has limited effect on biochemical reactions, is chemically and enzymatically stable, and has very low visible and UV light absorbance.

Cell Freezing Media

Gibco™ Recovery™ Cell Culture Freezing Medium is a complete, ready-to-use freezing medium for cryopreservation of a wide variety of mammalian cells, including CHO-S, CHO-K1, HEK 293, Jurkat, and NIH 3T3. Recovery™ Cell Culture Freezing Medium features:

  • Classic formulation optimized for better performance
  • Suitability for a wide variety of mammalian cells
  • Quality and performance tested
Antibiotics

Gibco high-quality selection agents offer unique solutions for your research needs, such as dual selection and rapid stable cell line establishment.

We offer a wide range of antibiotics and antimycotics that can help control or eliminate cell culture contamination.
